What is Claude Duet?
A background agent from Anthropic, in research preview since October 21, 2026. It keeps one ongoing text or voice thread, sends a morning brief and works on a queue on its own cloud computer.
How do I get Claude Duet?
Join the waitlist from Claude's own site. It is US only, for Claude Pro and Max subscribers; Team and Enterprise are not included yet.

No. Per coverage it shows the proposed action and waits for your approval before sending a message, making a payment, signing a document or deleting anything.
What are the limits?
It can misjudge urgency, personal errands are less developed, you cannot watch its browser yet, and coverage reports no public API or team mode. Background work counts toward your usage limits.

Intro
Hey hey hey, welcome to Agentic Pod! I'm Liam.
And I'm Stella! Liam, yesterday Anthropic launched Claude Duet. An agent that works after I close my laptop? Is that real?
It's real, in a research preview. It runs on Opus 5.5, on its own cloud computer, and it texts you first. Today: what it does, how to get in, and what to watch.
Texts me first. Rude, but I'm intrigued.
What Duet actually is
Okay, so what is it? Another chatbot?
No. It's a separate app. You talk to it by text or voice in one ongoing thread, while it keeps working on a queue in the background.
And the background part is the point.
Yep. It sends a morning brief. Then it checks your connected accounts every few hours and only pings you when something needs a decision.
Connected to what?
Anthropic's marketplace has more than six thousand connectors and plugins. Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe, Shopify were named in the coverage.
And it works while my devices are off?
It has a cloud computer with its own browser. So yes, the work keeps going. And your memory, skills and connected apps from your Claude account carry over.
Okay. But a robot with my email sounds scary. What stops it?
The approval gate
That's the best design choice. Duet can read, draft and prepare on its own. But before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows you the action and waits.
So it's a very polite intern.
An intern with a six-thousand-app toolbox. And two things are off limits even if you say yes. Trading securities, and moving money between accounts.
Good. I don't want it day-trading my rent.
Shopping is in there too. TestingCatalog reports it can buy through Stripe Link or Shopify Shop Pay, with an approval step first.
So my cart still needs my thumb.
Exactly. Your thumb stays the final boss.
Anthropic also says the action checks use the same classifier as Claude Code, and the preview was red-teamed. That's from the coverage, so check Anthropic's page.
And what has it been shown doing?
Invoice reminders, meeting scheduling, dashboards, sales forecasts, even small prototypes. Okay, now the part you actually want. How do you get it?
How to try it today
Do I just download it?
Not yet. You join a waitlist from Claude's own site, so check claude.com for the Duet page.
And then?
Then you wait for the invite. It's a waitlist, US only, for Pro and Max subscribers. Team and Enterprise aren't included, and there's no timeline.
Any extra cost?
No separate fee. Background work counts toward your normal usage limits. And Anthropic hasn't published exact numbers, so watch your usage.
So what's the first job?
Keep it read-only. Try something like, every morning at seven, read my inbox and calendar, tell me the three things that need a decision, and draft replies. Don't send anything.
And I approve each draft myself.
Right. Then add one small job a week. Overdue invoice reminders are a good second one.
Slow and boring. My favorite kind of AI.
And a week of that tells you if it's useful, before it touches money or contracts. Okay, now the fine print.
Gotchas and the verdict
What's the catch?
Anthropic says it can misjudge what's urgent. It can misread a thread. Personal errands are less developed, and you can't watch its browser yet.
And no developer door?
The coverage says no public API, and no team mode. So it's one person's assistant for now.
Who should join the waitlist?
Solo operators and small business owners buried in email, invoices and scheduling. If you live in Claude already, even better.
And who should skip it?
Anyone who needs a team workspace, an API, or a guarantee that nothing goes wrong. It's a preview, so treat it like one.
Honest verdict?
Worth the waitlist. Start read-only, keep approvals on, and judge the morning brief after a week. The links are in the description. What would you hand Duet first? Tell us in the comments. See you next time!
