How Do You Share Context Between ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor?
You plan in ChatGPT, build in Cursor and debug in Claude, and each one keeps its own diary.
AI Stella and Liam are AI hosts with AI-generated voices. About our AI hosts
Key takeaways
- There are four ways to share context between ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor: carry it by hand, snapshot the repo, self-host a memory layer over MCP, or use a hosted layer.
- Handing off a thread is not the same as syncing memory.
- A repo snapshot carries your files but not your decisions.
- Self-hosting memory over MCP works, but you maintain it.
- With Vilix AI every tool starts with get_context and ends with save_turn, and the newest memory wins when tools disagree.

You plan in ChatGPT, build in Cursor and debug in Claude, and each one keeps its own diary. In this episode of Agentic Pod, Liam and Stella price the four ways to share context between ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor: carry the thread by hand, snapshot the repo, self-host a memory layer over MCP, or let a hosted layer like Vilix AI do it. You get a 30-second decision, plus how Vilix AI gives every tool the same decisions, rules and failures with get_context and save_turn, and why the newest memory wins when two tools disagree.
What we cover:
- The four approaches and what each one costs: minutes, effort or trust
- Why handing off a thread is not the same as syncing memory
- Why a repo snapshot carries your files but not your decisions
- Self-hosting memory over MCP, and what you maintain
- The Vilix AI run loop: get_context first, save_turn last, with source labels and saved failures
- Newest memory wins when two tools disagree
- User rules, project rules, skills and the agent inbox
- Agencies: one Vilix AI account per client

Questions answered in this episode
How do you share context between ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor?
Carry the thread by hand, snapshot the repo, self-host a memory layer over MCP, or use a hosted layer like Vilix AI. The episode prices each one.
What happens when two tools disagree?
The newest memory wins, so the latest decision beats an older one.
How do agencies handle this for clients?
Use one Vilix AI account per client, so every client keeps a separate memory.

Intro
Hey hey hey, welcome to Agentic Pod! I'm Liam.
And I'm Stella! And, um, today's question: there are four ways to share context between ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor, and I want to know which one doesn't eat my evenings.
Four ways, and each one charges you something. Minutes, effort, or trust.
So it's like picking a phone plan, but the bill is my Tuesday.
Exactly. Let's price all four, and I'll show where Vilix AI fits in.
Approach one: carry it yourself
Okay, so, uh, what's the first one? Because I do this one. I copy, I paste, I sigh.
Yeah, that's the manual route. And it's gotten good. ctxport turns a thread into clean Markdown in one click, and ThreadPort moves a live chat between ChatGPT and Claude with a handoff prompt, ten transfers a month free.
Oh, nice. So what's the catch?
Those are handoffs, not sync. Every move is a decision you make, and anything you don't carry stays behind.
Mhm. So the plan I made in the morning is a stranger by dinner.
And you're the courier. Which brings us to the question you were about to ask.
Wait, wait. Is there one where I stop being the courier?
Approach two and three
Two, actually. The first just snapshots your repo. The context CLI turns a whole project into text, you paste it into Claude or ChatGPT, and your files travel perfectly.
But it doesn't know what we decided, right? Or what we tried and dropped.
Right. Repository context isn't working memory.
Okay. And the other one?
Self-hosting a memory layer over MCP, the plug that lets an AI app use outside tools. You deploy a worker, add a database, and every client reads one store.
So Claude saves a note and Cursor finds it.
By the way, you own the deploy, the updates, the occasional two a.m. breakage.
Two a.m. breakage. My favorite hobby.
Approach four: Vilix AI
So, uh, number four. That's where Vilix AI comes in, right? How does it actually fix the courier problem?
One account, cloud-hosted, so there's nothing to deploy. Every client connects over MCP. At the start of a run, the agent calls get_context and pulls what's relevant. At the end, it calls save_turn with a source label, so Vilix AI knows it came from Claude or Cursor.
And that's full conversations, not a summary?
Full history, yeah. Plan in ChatGPT, build in Cursor, and Vilix AI already has the plan waiting.
And my project rules? I'm not retyping those.
User rules and project rules live in Vilix AI. Skills too. Write the rule once and every tool reads it.
So I fire myself as courier.
You're promoted to passenger.
Okay, but here's what I keep wondering. What happens when two tools disagree?
What happens when tools disagree
Good, because that breaks most setups. Say Claude saved "we use Postgres" and yesterday you told Cursor "switch to SQLite."
Chaos. Two sources of truth, like, a bunch of tiny arguments.
With Vilix AI the newest memory wins. You correct it once, and every tool sees the correction.
And failures? Things I tried that didn't work?
Agents can save failures too, so the next tool doesn't repeat them. And there's an agent inbox for messages between runs.
And, um, if I build agents for clients?
One Vilix AI account per client, like a Gmail that belongs to them. Every agent you wire up for that client shares that memory.
The thirty second decision
Okay, so give me the thirty second decision.
Switch tools once a month? Carry it by hand. Daily inside one repo? Snapshot it. Daily and you want full control? Self-host. Daily and you want zero operations? Vilix AI.
And I can test it without a credit card, right?
The free plan is free forever, and the seven day Pro trial asks for no card. Connect Vilix AI to two tools, save a decision in one, recall it from the other.
Easy. Even for me.
