What’s the difference between ChatGPT memory and Claude Projects, and which one actually remembers your work? In this episode of Agentic Pod, Liam and Stella break down what each one stores, where each one shines, and what happens when you switch between ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and Codex all day. They show how Vilix AI gives every tool one shared memory over MCP, so decisions, rules and tasks follow you everywhere.

What we cover:

  • What ChatGPT memory remembers today, and how to review and correct it
  • What Claude Projects are: instructions, knowledge files and chats in one workspace
  • Claude’s own memory and past chat search, per project
  • Why switching tools means pasting the same context again
  • The get_context and save_turn loop, with source labels and timestamps
  • Newest memory wins: change a decision once, every tool sees it
  • Vilix AI projects, project rules, user rules, skills and the agent inbox
  • Agencies: one Vilix AI account per client

Intro

Liam

Hey hey hey, welcome to Agentic Pod! I'm Liam.

Stella

And I'm Stella! And today is, like, legit, the most common argument in my group chat. ChatGPT memory or Claude Projects, which one actually remembers my stuff?

Liam

Your group chat argues about AI memory?

Stella

We're very fun at parties. So, Liam, what's the difference?

What does ChatGPT memory do?

Stella

Okay so, um, let's start with ChatGPT. Like, what is it actually remembering about me? Is it just, uh, a little list of facts, like, Stella likes oat milk?

Liam

Yeah, I mean, that's what most people think, but it's it's more than that now. When memory is on, ChatGPT builds context from your chats, your files and your linked apps, and you can open a memory summary and, you know, look at what it remembers and correct it.

Stella

Oh, okay.

Liam

So it's really about personalizing ChatGPT for you, across your ChatGPT conversations. And one small thing, deleting a chat and deleting a memory are two different buttons, so, uh, you know, use the right one.

Stella

Noted. Never touching that button again.

What do Claude Projects do?

Stella

And Claude Projects, is that the same thing with a different logo?

Liam

Not really. A Claude Project is a workspace, it has its own instructions, its own knowledge files and its own chats. So it's great when you want the context focused, like a client brief, a repo, or a book you're writing.

Stella

Mhm.

Liam

And Claude also has its own memory and past chat search now, and each project gets its own memory space. So the real question isn't ChatGPT memory versus Claude Projects anymore. Each one remembers really well inside its own app.

Stella

Inside its own app. Okay, I feel like that's the part that matters.

Liam

Yeah, that's the whole episode right there.

What happens when you switch tools?

Stella

Okay so here's my actual life. I, um, I decide the pricing in Claude, then I build it in Cursor, then I, like, review the launch in Codex. And every time, I'm pasting the same paragraph, like, hi, it's me again, here's the plan...

Liam

The copy paste shuffle. Yeah. Each tool sees its own chats, its own files, its own connections. Same email address doesn't mean shared memory. For a one off switch, a short handoff note is fine, goal, decisions, open questions, next step.

Stella

And if I switch, like, ten times a day?

Liam

Then you want one shared memory, and that's what Vilix AI is. It's a hosted MCP memory server, you connect ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and Codex to the same Vilix AI account. At the start of a chat the tool calls get context and gets back the decisions and open tasks, and at the end it calls save turn, so the full exchange is stored with a source label, like Claude, and a timestamp.

Stella

Wait, so Cursor knows that pricing decision came from Claude?

Liam

Exactly. And it's the full conversation, so the why behind the decision comes along too.

Stella

Okay but, um, I change my mind a lot. Like, a lot a lot.

Liam

We've noticed. Vilix AI keeps every version with a timestamp and the newest one wins, so you change the price once and every tool sees the new one.

So which one should you use?

Stella

So, uh, okay, okay, wait, do I have to, like, turn off ChatGPT memory and, you know, delete my projects and start over?

Liam

No no, keep them on, they do different jobs. I don't know, think of it like this. ChatGPT memory personalizes ChatGPT, Claude Projects keep one piece of work focused, and Vilix AI is the layer that walks between them.

Stella

Mhm.

Liam

And Vilix AI has its own projects too, with project rules and tasks, so your stack and your conventions follow you into every tool. Then user rules, like, short answers, no tables, they apply to every AI at once. And skills, so a saved procedure, like your launch checklist, works in any tool.

Stella

Oh, and you know what I'd love? Sending a task from my phone.

Liam

That's the agent inbox. You drop a task from ChatGPT on your phone, and your coding agent picks it up on its next run. And if you're an agency, give every client their own Vilix AI account, so every agent you build for them shares that client's memory.

Stella

My AI tools finally talk to each other. Unlike my group chat.

Liam

One problem at a time.

Liam

So, quick recap. ChatGPT memory personalizes ChatGPT. Claude Projects keep focused work in one workspace. Both are great inside their own app. When you switch between tools, connect them all to Vilix AI, and every tool reads and writes one shared memory. The article, the full setup guide and the Vilix AI links are in the description. See you next time.

Stella

Bye!
